As someone who is rather resistant to change, replacing my 20 year old jump saddle was a tough pill to swallow. But, as a professional who rides numerous horses each day, my saddle is arguably my most important piece of equipment, and it was time for something new.
When I first laid my hands on a Forestier saddle, I was impressed first and foremost by the craftsmanship and attention to detail. The gullet is extra wide to allow movement of the spine, and the billets are free hanging from the tree, which allows the saddle to fit around a variety of different shapes of rib cages. The tree points are short, allowing flexibility of the front gussets of the saddle, which allows freedom of the horse’s shoulder. I needed a saddle that I would be able to put on an OTTB, a Connemara pony, and a warmblood all in the same day, so something that could fit a variety of horses was very important to me.
Durability was also extremely important to me, as I tend to keep my saddles for decades (literally!). These saddles are made from durable buffalo leather, while also feeling soft as butter. As someone who will be eventing and foxhunting in this saddle, I need something that I can use in all types of inclement weather, that is not going to fall apart on me, but something that is also comfortable for those 3-4 hour long days in the hunt field.
